SADIYA Canis lupus familiaris (Saluki cross) Four years old | Female | Unaligned | Healer | Demisexual Appearance Sadiya is a rather lanky looking canine, however there is something within those long legs and lean body that also utter grace. For the most part her fur is not particularly long, however it combats winter cold with its thickness, and is accented by longer strands of fur along her legs, the length of her feathery tail, and her long flowing ears. Color-wise Sadiya is largely monochromatic, a pale underbelly and face set against raven black markings, peppered with grey of varying shades. However, here and there, especially within the longer fur of her ears, are the slightest of mousy brown accents, and accentuate her rich chocolate brown eyes, which tend to stare absently in their entirely sightless state. Personality Sadiya is not a brave dog, however, nor is she a skittish wreck who cannot get out a straight sentence without stammering and cowering. Instead, she falls into a category of appeasing and submissive, yet also firm in her beliefs and willing to stand up for herself and others when she thinks there are only things to gain from doing so. For the most part she is guided by the heart, blindly following her compassion and instinct to help those in need - she is a very open minded soul that, while slow to trust, is equally slow to judge. She likes to give others the benefit of the doubt, and heal without judgement so long as they do not seek to harm or use her in return. Gratitude is indeed her greatest reward, however due to her blindness, she is riddled with guilt from her need to sell her healing abilities for food and protection when she would rather give them for free. Deep in her heart she wants companionship, however her ability to become comfortable around others is frail and uncertain, leaving her seemingly doomed to a life in solitude. Despite this, she remains calm and hopeful to the best of her ability, aiming to keep a level head and hide her emotions and troubles within. Everyone goes through trials, and she believes hers are simply what they are - something she must learn to live with, and accept with an open mind. She truly believes there are those with harder lives than her, and so she will keep any suffering to herself. History Born among a supportive family with a loving mother and siblings to play alongside, neither her blindness nor the absence of her father were of trouble to Sadiya. It did not take long for the nomadic group of sisters to realize that the young puppy was blind, however they embraced her anyway. A group of travelling healers as they were, they took this as a sign that her fate was to truly follow their path, rather than being distracted by hunting and fighting like others might be. She could put her spirit and soul into healing, and never be faced with the trials of judging those purely by how they look. Instead she could see with her heart. The sisters had high hopes for Sadiya, and she was happy to grow into them. Always with others around to feed, guide and protect her, life was pleasant. At times she was faced with trials that her sighted kin did not suffer, however she embraced each one of these falls for the rise she anticipated would follow. Her family were caring teachers, that taught her well, not just in healing, but in compassion and in helping others. However, solitary and appeasing as most of the family was, bravery and self-confidence were lower on their list of teachings. They believed in perceiving the world with an open mind, and that violence was the pure opposite of their morals. In time, however, things changed. Whilst many dogs were feared, in a way that Sadiya simply could not understand, the small nomadic group earned a reputation for their gentle and even submissive ways. It was this that was taken advantage of, and with their trust earned, the small family were attacked, leaving some to flee and some to die as Sadiya struggled in the panic she heard and felt, and the nothingness her eyes offered her. Unable to hunt and defend herself, Sadiya lived a difficult life alone. For half a year she would scavenge, seeking any source of nutrition and protein she could find, from abandoned kills and nests, to fruits and berries her nomadic family had taught her were safe. She knew well enough how to keep herself alive and healthy from her healing knowledge, yet what she did not know was how to find herself a more substantial diet or a semblance of safety without a reliable source of food or protection. Eventually, Sadiya turned out of desperation to her healing knowledge in new ways. Rather than healing freely as she once did, she began to offer aid in return for food, shelter and protection, or at the very least information on places to avoid and to find easier food based upon sound and scent. While she felt like a cheat, selling her abilities, she was nothing but kind to her patients, and many were pleased to offer a poor blind and starving dog some food or temporary safety in exchange for her healing ways or even a few minor teachings.
